Communications Director

The Communications Director leads public communications with the goal of achieving maximum transparency and engagement with the Tucson community. Duties include establishing multiple venues for the Mayor’s Office to both communicate directly with the public and listen to the public, scheduling and organizing weekly press conferences and e-newsletters, and responding to citizen questions and correspondence as directed. Experience working in a communications role in a highly visible public organization or in the office of an elected official is highly recommended. Knowledge and experience working with social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, and with CMS, especially WordPress, is also highly recommended. In addition, the Communications Director will play a key role in the development and implementation of the Mayor’s open government initiatives and related technology policies. Therefore, a strong understanding of open data projects and programs and other best practices in the use of communications and other technologies to make municipal governments more efficient, transparent and collaborative is recommended.

The Community Outreach Director manages constituent services and provides assistance to the Mayor’s Office staff in all areas, including policy research, public-private partnership development, local business and non-profit advocacy, grant writing, human services and education outreach and event planning. A strong background in social service and grass-roots advocacy in the Metro Tucson region is highly recommended. Knowledge and experience working with a wide array of non-profits and public and private foundations is highly recommended. A deep understanding of the values, responsibilities and funding models of our local and statewide education and human services organizations and an understanding of any new, innovative approaches to maximizing their efficiencies and sources of funding is also highly recommended. Experience working in or with local government is recommended.

Executive Assistant

The Executive Assistant manages scheduling and correspondence for the Mayor’s Office, maintains the office budget and office personnel, procurement and other records, coordinates the maintenance of office equipment and systems, prepares documents and presentations, responds to Public Records requests, administers office invoices and purchasing forms, answers office phones, records and sorts office mail, processes certificates, plaques and other recognitions as directed by the Mayor. Substantial experience as an Executive Assistant in a highly visible and rapidly moving office environment is highly recommended. Experience working in or with local government is recommended. Current commission as an Arizona Notary Public is recommended as well.

Positions in the Mayor’s Office are at-will and are not eligible for Civil or Classified Service. The Mayor’s Office is a fast-paced environment that requires a commitment to long hours and maximum flexibility. Listed duties may change from time to time to meet the needs of the Tucson community as directed by the Mayor.

We have almost reached the end of our campaign for Mayor, and I am proud of the work we have done together and the race we have run. Every vote counts, and at this point, we are in the lead. So of course our Republican opponent has released another television attack ad.

But Rick Grinnell’s new attack on my character is not only false, it’s dead wrong.

Rick accuses me of not telling the truth when I said my family business hadn’t taken any new cases for the City of Tucson. Of course I was telling the truth; our firm has not taken a new case from the City in the last year or two. We have given legal advice – but legal advice is not a case.

Furthermore, I have already given up my ownership interest in my family business, and I have said that if elected, I will give up the practice of law.

I am that serious about doing the right thing and avoiding any conflict - or even the appearance of conflict - as Tucson’s next mayor. So these sleazy attacks are unfounded.

Rick Grinnell should be ashamed of himself for attacking my character. He knows that my family business has not earned a single dime of the $230 million spent by Rio Nuevo – zero.

Rick knows this because he is a Rio Nuevo Board Member. He was even the Treasurer!

There are three ways you can help:

1. You can volunteer between now and Election Day to contact voters by phoning or walking. Just email pat@jonathanformayor.com or call our HQ at 370-6571 and we’ll schedule you in.

2. You can click here to give online and help keep our message on the air through Election Day.

3. You can forward this post to family and friends.

Thank you for helping fight back!

Jonathan

Tucson, AZ 85702

October 10, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUCSON, Ariz. – According to Commander Mark Kelly, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ husband who retired from the military this month, his wife is “looking forward” to voting for Democratic candidate for Mayor of Tucson Jonathan Rothschild in the upcoming November election.

Commander Kelly made the announcement Sunday at the Arizona Democratic Party’s 2011 Volunteer Awards Night dinner at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix.

Rothschild, who was unable to attend due to a prior commitment, received the news via Twitter feed “…and I can tell you Gabby is looking forward to receiving [her] Vote By Mail ballot, so she can vote for her friend Jonathan Rothschild for Mayor.”

“Congresswoman Giffords is an inspiration and a role model, to the world and to me personally. I have known her since she knocked on my door in her first legislative race and I was immediately won over. I’ve supported her in every campaign since,” said Rothschild. “I am incredibly touched and honored to receive this show of support.”

A business attorney, Rothschild has a 30-year career helping Arizona small businesses start up and grow. He has been a community leader, looking out for children and the elderly as President of both Casa de los Niños and Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, as well as serving in many other respected local charities and organizations.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TUCSON, Ariz. – Democratic candidate for Mayor of Tucson Jonathan Rothschild has won the endorsement of Tucson area labor unions UFCW, AFSCME, PALF, AFL-CIO, National Association of Letter Carriers and SEIU.

“Your hard work and dedication to the City of Tucson is obvious,” said James J. McLaughlin, President UFCW Arizona 99 in his endorsement letter. “Tucson is fortunate to have you as one of its decision-makers.”

“I am honored to have the support of working families,” said Rothschild, in accepting the endorsement. “My wife’s parents are Holocaust survivors and my father-in-law, a sheet-metal worker, worked his way up through union jobs, ultimately becoming owner of his own company. I understand that unions, and union jobs, helped build America’s middle class.”
